This garden house is combination of Western and Chinese styles. Maybe this house was developed together with surrounding lanes. It’s quite unique because there are so many fine and complicated ornaments and patterns on the building. Especially the pattern itself is the combination of Western and Chinese culture, plus historical and modern features. You can find pattern, which is the copy of Feudalism monarch in West Europe, or modern plane and airship with foil of cloud pattern, and even Chinese traditional decorative style pattern, e.g. Fortune Pattern. This house is so over-decorated that it reveals the show-off mind of the owner.

This house was used by private Hongqiao Middle School in 1950s, and renamed as Daqiang Middle School in 1960s, then was transferred to Hygiene & Quarantine Station of Xu Hui District, now is used by Hygiene Supervision Institute of Hygiene Bureau of Xuhui District.
