The Building No. 3 and 7, 48 Pingjiang Roa

The Building No. 3 and 7 in 48 Pingjiang Road was built in 1919, and is listed in the Fourth Group of Excellent Historical Architecture of Shanghai and the sites of historical interest and cultural relics under the protection of the district government of Xuhui.

This architecture consists of two perpendicular buildings with identical style, which connects each other by joint gallery on the second floor. The red brick-laying wall embodies rich texture, Aquarius type fence at exterior gallery shows Western traditional architecture ornament charm, and exposure of concrete beam at open loggia reveals flavor of modern architecture of 20 century. Due to beautiful curve line of gable, this Western style architecture integrates some transformation from Chinese fire-prevention gable wall, showing vividness due to combination of gable wall battlement and round flue hole.

This building was originally the premise of Jiangsu Foreign Negotiation Affairs Office, followed by Shanghai Special Municipality Government Office of Nanjing National Government. After 1949, it was taken over by Post and Telecommunication Ministry, and now is the First Research Institute of Information Industry Ministry.
