The Morning Star Mansion in 100 Tianyaoqiao Road was built in 1917.
This three-storey brick-and-wood structure school building has apparent center line, symmetric facade, which has three sections vertically, and five sections horizontally, expanding from the center to both wings to dominate the whole space of school. The form of triangle gable at both wings and middle can be originated from the Western classical composition paradigm.
The school was formerly the Qiming Girl’s School, established in the early 20th century, belonging to Helpers of The Holy Souls of Catholic Church, and was taken over by Shanghai Municipal Government and consolidated with Xuhui Girl’s School to be Huiming Girl’s School. It is now the No.4 High School of Shanghai.
